THE "SCHHHHH" CONCERT

San Francisco, October 4, 1998 -- Melissa Smith, pianist, and David Saslav, tenor,
will perform a piano and voice recital on SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 15, 1998,
at 4:00 PM. This free concert will take place at First Presbyterian Church, San Mateo,
194 W. 25th Avenue (four blocks west of El Camino Real), and will consist of works for
piano and for piano and voice by Franz Schubert, Robert Schumann, Frédéric
Chopin, and Cécile Chaminade.

Renditions Music Services was founded in Miraloma Park in 1995 by Melissa
Smith and David Saslav, to provide artist services in the Bay Area. Current
offerings include piano study, voice instruction, concert promotion (including
professional agency services), the Renditions music research library, the
Brahms Ensemble chorus, and artOpia (TM), an arts program envisioning
the integration of music into all facets of everyday life.

Pianist Melissa Smith performs recitals and masterclasses in the Bay Area
at venues such as Noontime Concerts, Berkeley City Club, Maybeck Recital
Hall, Star Classics, Palo Alto Cultural Center, Century Club, and Pacifica
Community Center. Smith currently performs in the masterclass of Eliane
Lust. In September, 1997, she performed Francis Poulenc’s "L’Histoire du
Babar" for pianist and narrator with actor Steven Patterson as part of the
San Francisco Fringe Festival. Robert Hurwitt of the San Francisco Examiner
described their performance as "pure, unadulterated delight ... simply blissful."
Annette Bercut of the West of Twin Peaks Observer called it "a charming,
bewitching, enchanting Babar".

Tenor David Saslav most recently starred as Lloyd St. Pierre in the San Francisco
performances of the Berkeley Opera production "Daughter of the Cabinet"
following six successful appearances in the production’s Berkeley and
San Francisco engagements. Other performances include the
dual role of Don Basilio/Don Curzio in Bayshore Lyric Opera Company’s 1997
production of "Le Nozze di Figaro", and in choruses for City Opera Theatre’s
inaugural "Jenufa" production, and the Lamplighters 1995 gala "Rosencrantz
and Guildenstern’s Excellent Adventure". The son of professional musicians,
Saslav specializes in lieder and choral performance. His solo recital performance
debut was in March in San Mateo. His voice can be heard on recordings
produced by the San Francisco Symphony, San Francisco Bach Choir,
California Bach Society, and Chorus Cappella of Orinda, the latter two including
solo work. He is also founder and artistic director of the employee choir at
Oracle Corporation, where he works full time as a Senior Product Manager.
He currently studies voice with Baker Peeples in San Francisco.
